How to Choose a Crystal

My name is Rosemary Leach, and I am also known as The Crystal Whisperer.

How did that name come about? I was once in a group meeting where one of the members was channelling a message in light language and then translating it for us. The only part I clearly remember was when she said, “Rosemary, known as The Crystal Whisperer.”

It was such a surprise—everyone felt a mixture of joy, wonder, and delight in that moment. And from then on, the name stayed with me.

How I Work with Crystals

I often work with photographs of crystals. People will send me a photo of their favourite stone, or sometimes I will pull a card from my crystal oracle deck. When shuffling, the card that has a message—or wants to “speak”—will often leap out of the pack, landing on the floor or in my lap.

This November, we are celebrating more light coming into the Earth. We all have auras, and I am also acknowledging our chakras, which have auras around them too.

The crystal that wishes to be acknowledged this month is the Rainbow Crystal, known as Fluorite. This crystal carries many colours and represents the rainbow’s spectrum—bringing a joyful feeling whenever you look at it.

How Do I Choose My Crystal?

This is a question many people ask:

How do I choose my crystal? or How do I know this is the right crystal for me?

If you are standing in front of a table of crystals—whether at a show or in a shop—you may find yourself drawn to them. Perhaps it’s a feeling, a pull, or simple curiosity. You may notice yourself attracted to a crystal’s shape, colour, or energy. You may feel guided to pick it up, hold it, and admire it. And then you might feel a deep knowing: This is mine. This is the one.

Sometimes, you might be walking past a crystal stall and suddenly feel drawn towards it. Without even thinking, you’re heading to a particular crystal or shape—and when you pick it up, you just know it belongs with you.

I had an experience like this many years ago that I still remember clearly. I had just arrived at a show and was walking towards a crystal display about four metres away when suddenly, I felt an energy hit me right in the heart area. It was so powerful that I knew, instantly, that the crystal was meant for me. I went straight up and bought it.

When You’re Unsure

If you’re not sure which crystal to choose—perhaps because of all the different energies around you, or conflicting thoughts—it can feel confusing. In those moments, I like to body test.

Here’s how I do it:

I ask my body to show me a yes and then a no. I test this by asking questions I already know the answers to—for example, my birth date or other significant details. When my responses are consistent, I then ask, “Is this crystal for me?

If I receive a yes, that’s my confirmation. I know I’m picking up the right message—and I’ll buy the crystal.

Body testing is a simple way to tune into your body’s wisdom. Stand with your feet grounded and relax your breath. Ask your body to show you a “yes,” and notice how it may lean, sway, or subtly shift—forward, backward, or perhaps even side to side. Then ask for a “no” and observe the difference. Trust these subtle movements as signals from your body’s inner knowing.

At shows and shops, there can be many different energies from people who have touched or admired the crystals before you. For me, body testing helps quieten the mind and bring me back into my heart—so I can receive a clear answer. Over the years, I’ve learnt to do this very subtly, with only a gentle movement for yes or no.

Trust the Connection

If you are drawn to a crystal and it feels good, trust that knowing. The crystal is choosing you just as you are choosing it. You’re recognising the connection and acknowledging your intuitive guidance.

Have fun when choosing your crystal. You may be drawn by its colour, shape, feeling, or energy—whatever it is, allow that connection to unfold naturally.

Enjoy the experience, trust your intuition, and remember that every crystal has its own way of calling you home.
